A solid establishment. Traditional midwest fare at a decent price is what you'll find at Mel's. Unpretentious, polite, and rapid service rounds out a very good experience each visit. I've had the bacon and eggs, the Cowboy burger, waffles, pancakes, breakfast burrito, and tater tots. Never returned any of it. The coffee tastes a little burned, however, and somewhat lower quality. That is my only complaint.

Went for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We didn't have to wait but I know if we arrived any later we would have. Place was busy. They brew some great coffee. Ordered the waffle w/strawberries. It was great.

I use to love this place and it the past would have given a 5 star rating. My husband and I have come here for years on Sunday morning. We were both really excited when they added really good Gluten Free bread! But over the past few months we have noticed a drop in the quality of the food. The ham steak is now a pressed ham loaf and the kind of GF bread is now some nasty cardboard stuff I will never eat again! Hope this is not going to continue, and maybe its just the regulars that will notice the change, but the regulars are what keep you going as a small out of the way business. The girls that serve the tables are over the top great!

I have lived in Jeff City for a little over a year and have eaten at a number of chains and a couple of small places. I was amazed at my first experience here. The food is excellent and the service is bar none. There is a smile on every face as they serve. This is a model every business should be looking at to be successful.

Great place to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner. Good, low prices and the food is pretty quick. Some of the new servers aren't as quick or attentive as others but still good service.

Exactly what you'd expect. Simple county style breakfast served quickly at a very reasonable price. I had the country fried steak with two eggs, hash browns, and toast. My daughter had the county omelet and said it was very good. Since I will now be making regular trips to JC, I'm sure I'll be back.

If you like greasy crap, eat here. Probably one of the worst places I have ever eaten in my life. Simply stated: this place sucks! I had eggs and bacon and the grease from the eggs (how could it possibly do this) was fighting with the grease from the bacon on my plate to see which could displace the other. Don't get me wrong, I've consumed enough liquor that I actually craved a greasy breakfast but that was a lifetime ago, or at least back when we went to Gasper's in the middle of the night after drinking too much, but I digress.... Mel's sucks...Stay away...

If you want homestyle food, this is a great place. Ask about the Longhorn...it is raised by the owners Mel and Becky, and comes and goes from the menu. The broasted chicken is my favorite dish. Don't come here thinking you are going to eat healthy, as even the "healthy choices" are a bit on the heavy side. But homestyle charm and a hearty meal can be expected.
